Black Hills?
Why do they call this beautiful western part of South Dakota the Black Hills? The beautiful pine trees that take root with ease in this rocky soil stand erect lined up proud and strong unwavering from high gusts of wind, hail, and snow. From a bird's eye view, they canopy the whole of this hilly area casting a seemingly dark shadow on this great mountainous land. Yet the sunny days of the Black Hills (almost 2/3 rds of the year), beam through the army of pine trees and life abounds.
Jan, this is wonderful. I love both the contemplative ambience your musings evoke as well as the pictures you've chosen. It is almost poetic and makes me want to read more. I have had similar thoughts, not about The Black Hills, but other types of phenomena. Engaging in such abstract thought every once in a while, I believe, can be a relaxing pastime and not to be considered as time wasted by any means.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on starting a blog! I know you will be an encouragement to many in this trying times. God bless you Jan.
